Truck Drivers Beware

I recently received an email about some current gang initiations going on throughout out the country. It told of a man who was driving to work and saw a baby car seat sitting on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. Despite several thoughts and hesitations he continued on his way. He did however call the police station to check it out and the information he received from them was shocking. It has been reported lately that certain gangs, as a part of an initiation, have been placing infant car seats on the side of roads to get people (particularly women) to stop and check it out.

The car seats are usually placed in a wooded or grassy area where the gang members can ambush the innocent stopper that is checking on the situation. The police station advised that if you ever see a situation similar to this do not stop and call 911 immediately. The article also mentioned that another tactic of gangs is throwing eggs at windshields to get people to pull over to the side of the road. If you are driving at night and an egg is thrown at your window do not active your wind shield wipers or spray any liquid. Egg combined with water creates a milky substance that blocks your vision thus requiring you to pull over and clean it.

The second I read this I thought of the dangers out on the road for all truck drivers. It is so important to stay updated on current threats and potentially dangerous situations. So be cautious out there! Things aren’t always as they seem. Remember to avoid secluded areas and stay in regular contact with someone when driving alone. It is especially important for women drivers to be educated on how to stay safe out on the road. Dangerous situations such as these can occur anywhere at anytime.

Maybe Team Driving Is the Answer

Trucking Team Jobs I have had the pleasure of speaking with a number of trucking teams over the years and they all seem to have one thing in common. More money than the solo guys. Now I am sure plenty of readers are going to jump on what I just said, but it's just been my experience. For drivers out there that seem to spend more time looking for loads rather than hauling them, maybe team driving could be the answer.

Many people have veered towards team truck driving from Solo truck driving because of the idea that the team can run more hours by switching drivers back and forth. This way they don’t have to stop for hours-of-service regulations. That equals more money in the long run.

This is great in theory, but make sure you get along with your team partner first. There has to be trust and compatibility. Think about it. Teams share all responsibilities, the cab, and sleep time gets traded back and forth.

A lot of team truck drivers are married. Married couples get along great and it allows them to see the country together. In fact, they are some the more successful trucking teams on the road.

There are some items that need to be mentioned. Team truck drivers are most often paid by the mile. This means that they split the pay in half, unlike solo drivers that receive full payment themselves. Teams make more money than solo drivers when the drivers are strong and the freight is steady. So, if your carrier gives you enough consistent freight and you get along with your partner, you can make more money as a team driver. But be sure to balance out the plus and minus of both sides when making team truck driving jobs an option for you.
